"Coining phrases like ""hate it or love it, the underdog's on top,"" West Coast rapper the Game has proven that his harsh but insanely popular rap style is anything but a game. The Compton-bred gangsta rapper has collaborated with everyone from Dr. Dre to Nate Dogg and Kanye West, yet the Game retains his own raucous and signature style of music that is admired by many and respected by all. He has scored three number one albums and just as many hit songs in his career since 2004, and the Game is just getting started in his total music takeover.Born Jayceon Taylor, the California-raised rapper grew up with anything but music on his mind. Compton's massive drug scene led the Game into the risky drug trade after a rough childhood, and he wasted time dabbling in narcotics before having an epiphany one day when shot during a home invasion. Turning off the drugs and up the radio, the Game discovered artists like 2Pac, the Notorious B.I.G. and Jay-Z, trying his hand at rapping in 2001 and not stopping since. Dr. Dre discovered the Game after hearing some of his bold freestyling in 2003, and the rap legend signed the Game to a contract with Aftermath soon thereafter. Initially releasing the albums Westside Story and Untold Story in 2004, the Game hit the big time with 2005's The Documentary. The album hit number one on the Billboard 200, Canadian, Internet and R&B/hip hop charts, but shortly thereafter a feud between the Game and rapper 50 Cent broke out, trapping Dre in the middle of it. Dre eventually ducked out of producing the Game's next album, but the rapper continued pumping out hits like Doctor's Advocate and LAX, both of which also reached the coveted number one position on the charts."
