"Named after the Nebraska state motto, the Good Life is packed full of those quirky sing-talk indie vocals and self-searching lyrics that make for a winning combination in the indie rock realm. A twist off the renowned indie rock band Cursive, the Good Life has collaborated with musical greats including Bright Eyes flutist Jiha Lee and Desaparecidios bassist Landon Hedges while touring with the famed Jealous Sound and Superchunk, earning a reputation of the band's own throughout the 2000s.Created largely by Cursive lead singer and guitarist Tim Kasher, the Good Life began as a solo project in 2000 when Kasher assembled a softer rock band that channeled his long-time mellower coffeehouse ideas. Kasher started his side project from Cursive after spending nearly a decade with the post-rock quartet, building up the Good Life as a more emotional counterpart to Cursive. Relying on a revolving door of musicians, Kasher's first album Novena on a Nocturn soon gathered fame by word of mouth, eventually released on San Diego's Better Looking Records. Compared to the likes of Morrissey and the Cure, Novena on a Nocturn reflected upon Kasher's recent divorce and anguish, reinforcing these painful feelings in the hit single ""What We Fall for When We're Already Down."" Though largely depressing, Kasher had found a devoted fan base to gobble up his music- the emo and folk crowds. After establishing the Good Life's signature sound, it was time for Kasher to find a stable band roster. Recruiting drummer Roger Lewis, Bright Eyes flutist Jiha Lee, Desaparecidios bassist Landon Hedges and keyboardist Mike Heim, the Good life toured with high-profile acts while continuing to release hit music, releasing 2002's Black Out and 2004's Lovers Need Lawyers, followed up with Album of the Year and Help Wanted Nights."
