When garage rock made a comeback in the early 2000s, it was the Hives at the forefront of the movement with their injection of rock mixed with a taste of punk. The sound is made up for Pelle Almqvist on vocals, Nicholaus Arson on guitar, Vigilante Carlstroem on guitar, Dr. Matt Destruction on bass and Chris Dangerous on drums. While the band members were just teens, The Hives formed in 1993 in Fagersta Sweden. Each of the musicians are self-taught and started working to hone their skills and create a marketable sound. They released their debut EP, Lord! When? How?, in 1995.The band worked hard to get a record deal and finally released their debut album, Barely Legal, in 1997. Not wanting to let their home country be the only ones blessed with their talent, the group also toured the U.S. after their first release. They released another EP in 1998 before releasing the 2000 album Veni Vidi Vicious. The album rocked the U.S. and elsewhere and shot to number 22 on the independent charts and number 62 on the Billboard 200. Helping the exposure of Veni Vidi Vicious, the band teamed with International Noise Conspiracy and the Hellacopters for a tour. The success led to a new record deal for the band, which meant the rerelease of their past work. Their released a compilation album in 2002 called Your New Favourite Band. They embarked on another tour and also played many festivals before working on another album. Tyrannosaurus Hives hit stores in 2004 and reached number 33 on the Billboard 200. They hooked up with the legendary production gurus, the Neptunes, to work on their next album. They released The Black and White Album in 2007, which again found success on the Billboard 200 charts, reaching number 65.
