The Jealous Sound

The Jealous Sound Biography

Around every turn for the indie rock band The Jealous Sound seemed to be a roadblock to the release of this bands albums, but their vicious touring schedule has kept fans and gained new ones nevertheless. The band started after guitarist and vocalist Blair Shehan left his band Knapsack in 1999. From there, he teamed up with Sunday's Best guitarist Pedro Benito, Neither Trumpets Nor Drums bassist John McGinnis and Pulley drummer Tony Palermo, who was later replaced by Adam Wade of Jawbox and Shudder to think. Each band member brought in their unique experience in other bands to create a group with both drive and talent. They started playing together and soon released a self-titled EP in 2000 on Better Looking Records. The release was helped by a subsequent tour with legendary bands Death Cab for Cutie, At the Dive In and The Promise Ring. The fast rise in popularity led to a major record deal with Mojo, which was a subsidiary of Universal. Mojo split with Universal soon after and switched to Jive, who was not as excited about The Jealous Sound. The band went back to familiar territory and started working with Better Looking again. They teamed up with producer Tim O'Heir and got to work on releasing their album. Kill Them with Kindness was finally released in 2003 and was instantly lauded by critics as a success. The band followed up their release with another successful tour and then headed back to the studio. They switched record labels and began talking about their new material in 2005. The band seemed to drop off of the radar after 2006, but they recently announced the release of their sophomore album on itunes in October of 2008. Those who have had a sneak peak of the album are already heralding it as the group's best work yet.
