The LOX

The LOX Biography

"The LOX is an acronym for Living Off Experience, and it is the name of Yonkers own rap group. The group is made up of Sheek (Shawn Jacobs), Jadakiss (Jayson Phillips), and Styles (David Styles.) The trio started rapping together when they were younger. They had their big break when they met Mary J. Blige who listened to their demo tape. She sent the tape on the Sean ""Puffy"" Combs who hired the boys to write for him. Eventually they went on the sign a record deal with Puff Daddy's Bad Boy Records. The group was the center of protests from the streets for their appearance on Puff's video ""It's all about the Benjamins.""Eventually they signed with Ruff Ryders and were able to begin spreading their wings a bit more, making their stance known with songs such as ""Wild Out."" The skit ""Rape'N U Records"" is a shot at Puffy's Bad Boy Records, which probably did not have the desired effect--most people think the skit was a waste of energy. But the boys seem to have grown up since then, creating some plausible rap albums that are beginning to do very well. The group that started out working as teenagers, kept going through the ‘90s. Their albums included Money, Power& Respect which during their Bad Boy days. The album did very well reaching number three on The Billboard 200. Next came We Are the Streets which hit number five on The Billboard 200. The album contained three skits, marking the boys exodus from Bad Boy. The album gave lyricist Jadakiss a chance to showcase his talent, proving that he had been very much underappreciated in the industry. Their most recent album is Before The Lox which was released on June 25, 2007."
