The fact that the loud and boisterous band the Used has changed its sound immensely during its first few years in existence is little surprise knowing where the band comes from. They came together in a conservative bubble of a town called Orem, Utah, which did its best to try to calm down the sound of this band when they first came together. On top of a rigid upbringing, the band members also had to overcome everything from homelessness to drug addiction. They pressed on regardless of all of the marks in their past and soon found a recording contract with Reprise Records. When they released their self-titled debut album in 2002, the band had only played about 20 live shows around their hometown. They soon changed their rookie status as live performers and performed numerous shows all around the country, including festivals like Ozzfest and tours like the Warped Tour. They shared stages with everyone from Linkin Park to Snoop Dogg. They released Maybe Memories in 2003, which was a combination of live songs and other material. Their sophomore studio album followed in 2004 with In Love and Death, which also launched a massive tour for the band. Their sound on this album was noticeably getting deeper and drawing the attention of fans everywhere, reaching number six on the Billboard 200.The band shuffled a little as drummer Branden Steineckert left the band because of conflict in 2006 and later joined the band Rancid. They released a live album in 2007 with Berth, but fans were ready for another studio album. The Used delivered that same year with Lies for the Liars. The album did even better that the previous releases and climbed to number five on the Billboard 200. They started another tour to promote the album and have fans waiting for their next creative release.
