"Toto was a ‘70s rock band that had an auspicious entry into the mainstream music world - with their eponymous debut album they were nominated as Best New Artist at the 1978 Grammy Awards. Toto started out as group of friends whose parents were musicians and wanted to make music in their own right. David Paich was the group's keyboardist and vocalist, Steve Lukather was a guitarist and vocalist for the group, also on vocals was Bobby Kimaball. Other members included keyboardist Steve Porcaro, bassist David Hungate, and drummer Jeff Porcaro. The group met in high school and at studio sessions during the ‘70s, they were some of the busiest studio artists in the business. The group's debut album, which was well-accepted by the general public, made critics a little disgruntled as it exhibited a musical need for craft rather than inspiration in the creation of music. This album was to typify the sounds of Toto, setting the stage for their music which would become harder and softer at times throughout their careers but would remain strongly focused on the craft of the art.Toto had their greatest stage of music during the ‘80s, starting in 1982 when they won three Grammy Awards. For all-around craft they were awarded the Producer of the Year, Non-Classical. For their song ""Rosanna"" they were awarded Record of the Year, and for their album Toto IV they won the award for Album Of the Year.Although the group has had many changes over the past 30 years that they have been together, they have enjoyed continued success. Despite the loss of several band members, one of whom, Jeff Porcaro, died, the band has continued to stay true to their craft and true to the music, constantly producing a sound that is well-loved and widely listened to in the US and has even more popularity abroad."
