We the Kings

We the Kings Biography

Named after their junior high school mascot, We The Kings is another punk/pop band that has known each other since their first steps. Still in their teens, singer and guitarist Travis Clark, guitarist Hunter Thomsen, bassist and brother Drew Thomsen and drummer Danny Duncan have turned heads with their first self titled album. Attracting record label S-Curve, who has created stars like The Baha Men and Fountains of Wayne, We The Kings is heading for a long reign. The band, originating with the oranges (Brandeton, Florida,) formed in high school. Hoping to gain notoriety via the new world wide web, the band initially posted songs on a social network called Purevolume. After they caught the attention of fans and their current record label, Sam Hollander and Lou Giordano, the men behind similar indie-turned-commercialized group Plain White T's turned these secondary sounding teenage-antics into a record. We The Kings is currently touring with Warped Tour, hitting cities like Chula Vista and Fresno, hoping to please audiences with their punk-like edge and unlikely diligence. Playing alongside their better known counterparts Paramore, We The Kings performed on MTV's Spring Break in 2008. The band's website offers insight into the world behind these Florida natives, along with tour dates and even a merch store where fans can purchase t-shirts almost identical to the ones the band mates themselves wear.

In 2008, We The King's single "Check Yes Juliet" made the Billboard's Top Hot 100 from their debut album, which made the Billboard 200 in 2008 as well. The song, sounding just about as punk as Avril Lavigne has been lately, sings about the desires of being with the one you love; "Check yes Juliet/I'll be waiting/wishing, wanting/yours for the taking/just sneak out/and don't tell a soul goodbye." Though few have heard of this Florida group, the youngsters still have time to grow and perfect their sound. The boys, still sounding a little like puberty has yet to hit, strike a dramatic tone with a younger following. Up for a nomination for Video of the Year and Best Rock Video from MTV's 2008 Video Music Awards, "Check Yes Juliet" will not be We The Kings' last hit single."Check Yes Juliet," performed at MTV's Spring Break 2008 along with other songs from their self-titled debut album, is available for download on PlayPhone, along with "Secret Valentine," "Skyway Avenue," and "Stay Young." Though the boys sound much like any other punk-pop band, their personal quest for excitement gives We The Kings a promising future.
