Whitesnake was formed by former Deep Purple vocalist David Coverdale in 1977 in London, England. The lineup of the band also includes Dough Aldrich and Reb Beach on the guitars, Uriah Duffy on the bass, Tommy Aldridge on the drums and Timothy Drury on the keyboards. The group has made some significant achievements, most notably keeping their sound relevant to the musical world for more than 30 years. The group first became popular in Europe and Japan, getting somewhat lost in the crowd of heavy metal rock groups that were starting up during the ‘70s, but they found their fame in the US at the start of the ‘80s.Though the group has gone through several significant changes in line-up over the years, they have continued to produce excellent albums that are well-loved by their fans. Their first album was Snakebite in 1978, but many people do not acknowledge it as the album was created before the group had really found their sound. Their album Trouble is commonly recognized as the first real album that the group created. Released in February of 1978, the album was the first one to show the true potential of the group.Trouble was followed by Love Hunter which featured a rather explicit cover, gaining more press for the cover than the content although the music itself continued to show the group's potential. Their next studio album was Ready An' Willing, which featured some solidly written songs by Coverdale, and was their first album to show up on the charts. Saints and Sinners topped its predecessors and was so excellent that the band was hard pressed to create a suitable follow-up. But 1984's Slide It In became even more successful and peaked at number 42 on The Billboard 200. In 1987, the group had their biggest success of the ‘80s with White Snake, which topped out at number two on The Billboard 200, and was their biggest selling album of the decade selling over six million copies.
