"Metallica made fun of them and Beavis and Butt-head laughed at their sound, but still Winger held strong. The hard metal rock group Winger, spurred from Alice Cooper's heavy metal vaudeville-style rock, featured Kip Winger at the helm. Taking the surname from their front man who started the group in 1986, the group included guitarist Reb Beach, bassist Paul Taylor and drummer Rod Morgenstein. The group found inspiration via pop metal groups like Bon Jovi and Poison as they soured to the top of the charts with their first two albums. Winger, which sold one million copies, sparked the hit singles ""Seventeen"" and ""Headed for a Heartbreak,"" while their sophomore effort, In the Heart of the Young, saw just as much success with another chart topping single in the ballad ""Miles Away"" and another million copies sold. In their success, the group saw nominations at the American Music Awards and tons of MTV radio airtime. The group promoted their albums with a worldwide tour before Paul Taylor left the group, citing exhaustion. But after their 1990 success, Winger saw little else in their hard metal rock world as musical genres began to change and more fans switched over to grunge. Their third effort, Pull, sold a despicable amount and the boys disbanded in 1994. After the band's hiatus, Kip pursued a solo career and released three albums on his own.In 2002, the original band reunited for a full-fledged reunion tour after which the members recorded the single ""On the Inside"" for their newest album, The Very Best of Winger. The tour of US and Canada only lasted a few months before the group disbanded again."
