"When the foursome Xscape came together, it was almost instantly an R&B powerhouse even though the members were just beginning their careers. The group started near Atlanta with two sisters, Tamika and LaTocha Scott. The girls were raised in their father's church and were singing together from a young age. They started performing around the area soon after. They joined with Tameka ""Tiny"" Cottle and Kandi Burruss to form Xscape in the early. Cottle had a history in the music industry as her family members were part of the R&B group the Tams. She also modeled and acted at a young age.The girls got a gig in Atlanta at a Martin Luther King birthday celebration, where they were heard by legendary producer Jermaine Dupri. Seeing their talent, Dupri signed them to his label, So So Def. They recorded and released the album Hummin' Comin' at ‘Cha in 1993. The album had the hit singles ""Just Kickin' It,"" ""Understanding,"" ""Love On My Mind"" and ""Tonight,"" pushing it to number three on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and number 17 on the Billboard 200. They followed it up with Off the Hook in 1995, which again hit number three on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and number 23 on the Billboard 200.They slowed down their sound for their third release, Traces of My Lipstick, which dropped in 1998. The album did similarly on the charts for Xscape, but the members were looking for solo career as well. Tamika Scott went on to release a solo gospel album in 2000. Kandi Burruss wrote the hit song ""No Scrubs"" for TLC in 2000 and started working as a songwriter as well as releasing solo albums. Tiny Cottle Also started songwriting as well as collaborating with top stars. La Tocha Scott also recorded a solo album. The girls reunited minus Burruss in the mid 2000s and added Kiesha Miles to release and album called Unchained. "
